Charles D. “Chuck” Holsinger, 93, formerly of Upland and beloved father, brother, and grandfather, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, Rockford, IL. He was born on March 8, 1924 in Red Bluff, CA, to Paul and Elsie (Dingley) Holsinger. He is survived by his son Charles "Ace" (Gwen) Holsinger of Rockford, IL; daughter Janet (Gary) Friesen of Fort Wayne, IN; daughter Robyn (Steve) Ekstrand of Batavia, OH; son Daniel (Marilyn) Holsinger of Stillman Valley, IL; and his sisters Laura McNicol of Hayden, ID and Dorothy Schultz of Upland, IN. He has 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents and his brothers, Paul and David Holsinger.

Chuck married Elisabeth "Betty" Hermansen on August 4, 1949. He was honored to live his life serving the Lord as a missionary and was an ordained minister. He began his missionary career with OC International in the Philippines, but soon moved to Taiwan where he served as a teacher, coach, high school principal, and superintendent of Morrison Academy. He was lovingly referred to as "Coachie" by all his students. Chuck later served as Vice President of OC International and traveled extensively for the mission willing to fill any role as needed. Chuck was proud to serve his country in the United States Army during WWII, stationed in the Philippines (1942-1945). He was a decorated veteran, being awarded a Silver Star and a Bronze Star.

Chuck graduated from Wheaton College in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. He later received his Masters of Biblical Literature in 1953 and was given an Honorary Doctorate in 1975. He moved to Upland from San Jose, CA and was an active member of the Upland Community Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Jones Smith Chapel, 259 N Main Street, Upland, IN 46989. A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Upland Community Church, 439 W. Berry St. Upland, IN 46989. Memorials may be made to the Holsinger-Schultz Memorial Endowed Scholarship at Taylor University, 236 W Reade Avenue, Upland, IN 46989 or to the Paul (Hap) and Madra Holsinger Mission Scholarship at Wheaton College, 501 College Avenue, Wheaton, IL 60187.
