The Piano Brothers

Sherrill Rae Wilcoxon, 69, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. She was born to the late L.F. and Jesse "Irene" (Jacobs) Southerland on January 1, 1948, in Marion, Indiana. She married Gene Wilcoxon on April 2, 2008, and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2011. She graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1966. She retired from Mississinewa schools after 36 years and also worked in home health care. She was also a regular attendee at Eastview Wesleyan Church in Gas City.

Sherrill was an extraordinary and optimistic woman. She was very loving and courageous. Her faith was to be admired. She handled everything life threw at her with grace and humility. She touched everyone's life that she came into contact with. She was a very outgoing lady who never met a stranger. When she went somewhere, she always came away with a new friend. You couldn't meet her and not love her. She was a very patriotic woman who proudly supported all of our veterans. She would attend dances for veterans and dance with them. She was extremely fun-loving and loved to have a good time. She always had a smile on her face. She participated in parents without partners dances, was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Moose, and the Ladies Auxiliary. She loved her weekly women's card club and she will be missed by all of her friends there. She enjoyed swimming, riding her Polaris, and being outdoors. She loved to end everyday fishing in her pond.

Sherrill is survived by her two daughters, Shelly Lester, Marion, and Lisa (Jeremy) Tighe, Gas City; sister, Pam (Larry) Spurgeon, Greenwood; brother, Terry Southerland, FL; grandson, Hunter Hoss; special friends and family, Mary (Pete) Coronato, Jerry (Jackie) Hoss, Penny (Ed) Ables, Roma (Bob) Lewis, and Keith (Debbie) Hoss; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Austin Tighe; husband, Gene Wilcoxon; brother, Randy Joe Southerland; sister, Thea Messick; parents, L.F. and Irene Southerland; and her son, William Hoss.
