Carl E. Gerstorff, 95, of Upland, died Saturday morning, June 1, 2019, in Wesleyan Healthcare Center, Marion. He was born on November 2, 1923, the son of the late William and Mary (Jones) Gerstorff.
Mr. Gerstorff served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was formerly employed with the VA Hospital, Marion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, playing Bingo, and doing crossword puzzles and was a member of the Jonesboro American Legion.
Survivors include sons: Melvin (Candice) Gerstorff, Upland; Ralph (Linda) Gerstorff, Marion; and Carl (Barbara S.) Guerin, Upland; siblings: Estella Ricker, Marion; Margaret Moore, Fairmount; John “Bud” (Charline) Gerstorff, Anderson; George (Phyllis) Gerstorff, Greentown; Judy Rhodes, Fairmount; Wendell Gerstorff, Fairmount; Darlene Shindler, Summitville; and Betty Merritt, Murrayville, IL; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Verona (Likens) Gerstorff; his second wife, Ester (Smith) Clennding; and brothers, Marion, William, and James Gerstorff.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 259 N. Main St. Upland, where a visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, from 4-8 pm. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, June 6, 2019, at the funeral home, with Rev. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Interment with Military Rites will follow in Grant Memorial Park, Marion.
