Clellon Q. Bottoms, 79, died Thursday evening, June 13, 2019, in Wesleyan Healthcare, Marion, surrounded by family. He was born in Edmonton, Kentucky on June 17, 1939, the son of the late Rev. Lambert and Ella Mae (Quinn) Bottoms.
He graduated from Sonora High School, Sonora, Kentucky, in 1958. In 1959, he moved to Upland, where he had attended the Upland United Methodist Church for over 40 years. He was employed with GenCorp for 36 years as a production laborer, until his retirement in 2001.
Mr. Bottoms married Dixie Shafer on July 21, 1972. Together they shared 37 years, before she preceded him in death on May 1, 2010.
Survivors include four sons: Jack (Gail) Robinson, Sweetser; Ron (Cindy) Robinson, Decatur, Alabama; Ken (Becky) Robinson, Simpsonville, South Carolina; and Ed Robinson, Pelham, Alabama; two daughters; Phyllis Hurd, Marion; and Susie (Tim) Edgell, Marion; three brothers: Cliff Bottoms, Upland; Morris Bottoms, Elizabethtown, Kentucky; and Wilber (B.J.) Bottoms, Hopkinsville, Kentucky; a sister: Janet (Chris) Brown, Elizabethtown, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Carolyn Lee and Maxine Phillips; a brother: Charles Bottoms; and a grandson, Timothy Edgell.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 259 N. Main St., Upland, where a visitation will be held from 2-5 pm on Sunday, June 16, 2019. A funeral service will be held at Pierce Upland United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 17, 2019 with Pastor Rob Neel officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Gas City.
