D. Verlin Pierce, 84, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Marion General Hospital. Verlin was born on July 23, 1934, to the late Delvia and Louise Pierce. He graduated from Fairmount High School in 1955, and married the love of his life, Catherine Carl, on July 27, 1955, at Fairmount Pilgrim Holiness Church. He then served in the Army from 1957-1959, spending time in Korea. Verlin worked for the News Sun as a pressman since he was in high school, retiring in 1999. However, always being a very active man, he continued to work part-time for the paper until his passing. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and fishing at Lake Caldwell. He made several friends at the lake and enjoyed hanging out with them as well. Verlin had a heart for others and would help in any way he could.

Verlin is survived by his wife, Catherine; three children, Steven (Candy) Pierce, Marion, Patricia (Randy) Tomlin, Fairmount, and Darren (Lori) Pierce, Fairmount; seven grandchildren, Brady and Kortney Pierce, Steven Hedrick, Amanda (John) Govin, Aaron (Jodi) Tomlin, and Lindsey and Katee Pierce; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Joanna Younts, Mary Goins, and Joyce Carl; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delvia and Louise Pierce; sister, Barbara (Albert) Rumfelt; grandson, Trent Pierce; and great-granddaughter, Addison Dooley.

Arrangements for Verlin have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana, where a visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. A funeral service honoring Verlin's life will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Jeff Leudtke officiating.
