Jill (Thompson) Clock

February 25, 1941 ~ December 21, 2019 (age 78)

Obituary

Becky Jill Clock, 78, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019, in Hartford City, Indiana, after an extended illness. Jill was born on February 25, 1941, in Marion, Indiana. An only child, she was the pride and joy of her parents, Blake and Gladys (Lees) Thompson. Jill grew up in Upland, Indiana, and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1959. It was there that she met the love of her life, Charles Earl Clock. These high school sweethearts were married on April 20, 1963. Jill was a stay at home mother for many years, and later worked for Eastbrook Community Schools as a teacher’s assistant at Upland Elementary for 20 years. She retired from there in 2005. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling to see her grandchildren, and especially taking them all on trips to Disney World. Jill was an avid shopper, and loved frequent trips to Indianapolis for shopping days with her daughters and grandchildren.

In 2009, Jill was dealt a devastating blow with the loss of her leg after a fall. However, she never let that unfortunate situation slow her down, and she dealt with setbacks in her health and mobility with dignity, strength, and grace. Then, in 2017, Jill was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a rare degenerative brain disease. Although life seemed impossibly unfair at times, Jill again relied on her faith and her immense grit and determination to continue to live life to its fullest. She was strong willed, stubborn, and determined til the end, and she will always be remembered for these strengths. Her favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” She certainly lived out these words in the last years of her life.

Jill was a member of Grant United Methodist Church, and enjoyed going to gospel concerts, traveling, and watching IU basketball games with her husband Earl. She was also a member of the New Mulberry Homemakers Extension Club for over 50 years, and received the Grant County Extension Homemakers Leadership award in 2010.

Jill is survived by her husband of 56 years, Earl, and three daughters, Amy (Todd) Marshall of Bentonville, Arkansas, Andrea Fitzgerald of West Grove, Pennsylvania, and Jennifer (Jared) Jarck of Fairmount, Indiana. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Holyn and Hayden Marshall, Brody and Bryce Fitzgerald, and Hayley and Andrew Jarck.

Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Blake and Gladys Thompson.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home in Fairmount, Indiana.  Visitation will be held Thursday, December 26, from 2-6 p.m. A funeral service will also be held at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home on Friday, December 27, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Constance Cherry officiating. Burial will be at Matthews Cemetery.

Contributions made in memory of Jill may be made to Grant United Methodist Church.
