Maebelle (Dickey) Gaither

August 29, 1922 ~ June 30, 2018 (age 95)

Maebelle Gaither, 95, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at home with her loving family by her side. Maebelle was born on August 29, 1922, to the late Dolph and Elva Dickey. She attended Green Township Schools. On June 28, 1941, Maebelle married the love of her life, Clyde Gaither. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage before he passed on July 2, 2004. Together they raised eight children. She was a lifelong resident of Delaware County and was a faithful member of Epworth United Methodist Church. She was also a former member of the Red Hat Society. Maebelle was a God fearing woman who loved caring for her family. Her children have countless stories of how she took care of them while helping pull weeds in the bean field. When the kids were little, she could always be found with a child on her lap or hip while working around the house. She was very hardworking. She was a great cook and everyone loved her fried chicken. For a while, she worked at Betty's Lunch in Fowlerton.

Left to cherish Maebelle's memory are six children, Sharon (Gene) Carson, Marion, Jerry (Jane) Gaither, Gaston, Ed (Ardith) Gaither, Jonesboro, Mark (Katina) Gaither, Muncie, Paul (Shawny) Gaither, Summitville, and Fred (Linda) Gaither, Ponder, TX; niece, Laura Hoover, Louisville, KY; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dolph and Elva Dickey; husband, Clyde Gaither; son, Max Gaither; daughter, Darlene White; brother, Waldo Dickey; and sister, Nixola Atkinson.

Arrangements for Maebelle have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Jones-Smith Chapel, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana, where a visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. A funeral service honoring Maebelle will follow at noon with Pastor Jan Bunch officiating. Burial will take place at Matthews Cemetery.
