Mary Brown, 67, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. Mary was born on May 11, 1956, to the late Thomas and Helen Steelman. She graduated from Mississinewa High School and worked for the Laborer's Union #1112 for 22 years. She married James Brown in August of 2000 and he survives in Matthews. Mary was a member of First Community Church of Matthews for many years. She loved crafts and sewing, deer hunting, traveling, going to the campground in the summer, and doing yard work. You would most often see Mary driving through Matthews on the golf cart, all loaded up with children. She loved her dog, Lily, and they enjoyed their daily walks through Matthews Cemetery.
Mary is survived by her husband, James; sisters, Helejean (Glenn) Dundore, Durand, MI, Joan Masters, Marion, Jewley Dobson, Carlsbad, NM, and Bernice (Ron) Willis, Converse; brothers, Tom (Carol) Steelman, Marion, and Bartie Steelman, Murray, KY; sisters-in-law, Nora (Steve) Harding, Karen (Richard) Singer, and Louritta Steelman; brother-in-law, George Orcutt; mother-in-law, Dolly Brown, Matthews; nephews, Michael Stephens, Timmy (Becky) Thompson and their children, Victoria and Jacob, Kregg (Jennifer) McGriff and their children, Brittany, Kamron, and KarLee, Duance Mowat, Robert Steelman, Jr., and Wayne Dobson; nieces, Payton Stephens, Amanda (David) Baker, Hope Harding, Duana Mofield, Tracy Overcast, Louritta Jackson, Monica Dawson, Angel Lewis, Nicki Bradford, Dina Steelman, and Kaleena Alvarado; and her beloved dog, Lily.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Helen; brother, Robert Steelman; sister-in-law, Delma Orcutt; nephews, Georgie Orcutt, Michael Harding, Johny Steelman, Jr., and Bobby Jo Steelman; and niece, Alecia Alvarado.
Arrangements for Mary have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Matthews Cemetery, with Pastor Thomas Stone officiating.
