Carol Elaine Berry, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend and devoted teacher, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 71 years old.
Born on May 29, 1953, in Marion, Indiana. Elaine grew up in a loving farm household with her parents and sisters. She attended Oak Hill High School where she met the love of her life and husband for 51 years, Steve Berry. Elaine excelled in her studies and had a passion for learning and caring for others at an early age, which led to her attending Ball State University where she earned her teaching degree.
After graduating, Elaine dedicated her life to nurturing and educating others. For over 35 years she inspired countless students and teachers, with her passion for learning and her unwavering commitment to their growth. Her classroom was a safe place to students offering encouragement, curiosity and love, where every student felt valued and understood.
Beyond her professional achievements, Elaine was fiercely devoted to her family and friends, always putting their needs before her own. Her love knew no bounds and she created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering support. She treasured every moment with her loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories. She especially adored her grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride into her life. Her deep faith in God was the cornerstone of her life. She lived her beliefs every day, embodying the principles of love, kindness, and selflessness in all she did. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her daily acts of compassion and service to others.
Elaine is survived by her husband Steve, children Jay (Angela) Berry, Amy (Jason) Metzger, Stephanie Sherrill; grandchildren Gia Berry, Madison Metzger, Braelynn Metzger, McKinleigh Sherrill, and Zoey Sherrill; sister Nancy Jo Anderson, brother-in-law Mark Stanley; several nieces and nephews, too many friends to count, including her "Grandfriends". Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Jennifer Berry and sister Sue Ann Stanley. The family would like to thank Colonial Oaks and Heart to Heart Hospice staff for the care Elaine received.
Arrangements for Elaine have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Life Celebrations Funeral Home and Cremation Services, College Park Chapel, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953. A visitation will be held on Monday July 29, 2024, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. at Swayzee Community Church 101 West Madison Street Swayzee, Indiana 46986. A funeral service celebrating Elaine's life will be Tuesday July 30, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Jenni DeBaun officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory.
