Carolyn S. Cornelious, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the home of her daughter in Silver Lake, Indiana.
Carolyn was born on January 9, 1938, in Alexandria, Indiana, to the late John F. and Julia G. (Huffman) Ritter-Sohn. She graduated from Elwood High School with the Class of 1956. On October 4, 1963, she married Norman J. Cornelious, who preceded her in death on October 27, 2012.
Carolyn retired in 1988 after 17 years as a shipping and receiving supervisor at Schwitzer. She was a faithful member of Heritage Christian Church in Elwood. Carolyn enjoyed quilting, crocheting, traveling, attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities, and spending time driving her golf cart. Above all, she treasured the time she spent with her family.
She is survived by her five children: Deborah Jamerson of Warsaw, Illinois; Nance (Randy) Brunson of Huntington; Julia Cash of Spencer, Oklahoma; Judy Hood of Silver Lake, Indiana; and Bill (Tammy) Cornelious of Fairmount. She is also survived by her brother, Carl Ritter of Elwood; 14 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carolyn was preceded in death by her sister, Elnora Wilson; her sons-in-law, Chuck Hood and Chuck Jamerson; her granddaughter, Mega Cash; her niece, Melanie Jones; and several nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Ron Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at Elwood City Cemetery in Elwood, Indiana.
