Chuck
Haisley
Jun 22, 1930 — Jun 21, 2026
Clarence "Chuck" Haisley Jr. of Fairmount died Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Envive Health Care Center in Hartford City, just one hour before his 96th birthday.
Chuck was born June 22, 1930, in Fairmount, Indiana, to the late Clarence E. Haisley Sr. and Hazel I. (Doyle) Shaw. He graduated from Fairmount High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on January 9, 1952, and served until December 20, 1955, including 18 months overseas, mostly in Japan. Proud of his service, he was a true patriot.
Chuck was married for 74 years to his high school sweetheart and beloved wife, Arlene David. Known throughout Grant County as the "Sap's Donut Man," he made deliveries in all kinds of weather, from rain and wind to blizzards. He resided for several years in St. Augustine, Florida, and later, Hendersonville, North Carolina, where he worked at Belk Department Store. After retiring from Belk in 1997, he and Arlene returned to Fairmount to be near family.
Never one to stay idle; Chuck later worked for Fairmount Pro-Hardware and Big R in Marion. He was a former member of the Fairmount American Legion and a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church in Gas City. He loved to sing and participated in several gospel groups that ministered at area churches. Chuck was fun-loving and enjoyed teasing others, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a fan of NASCAR driver Tony Stewart and enjoyed reading, particularly Louis L'Amour westerns. In his younger years, he bowled in several leagues and enjoyed playing golf.
Chuck will be dearly missed by his wife, Arlene Haisley; son, Tony (Lori) Haisley; daughter, Deb Carpenter; grandson, David (Katy) Haisley; granddaughter, Sarah (Brandon) Conner; and seven great-grandchildren, Cadence, Landyn, Reese and Mack Haisley, and Harper, Laekyn and Bryer Conner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Hazel; two sisters, MaraBelle Johnson and Florence Stookey; three brothers, Harley, Howard "Hob" and Doyte Haisley; and son-in-law, Mike Carpenter.
Services for Chuck have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. A funeral service celebrating Chuck's life will be held Monday, June 29, 2026, at 3 p.m., with visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. before the service. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery with military rites.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 800 E. South C St., Gas City, IN 46933, or left at the funeral home.
