David M. Carper, 77, passed away on November 30, 2024, at Colonial Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Marion, Indiana. Born on December 30, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of Dale and Catherine "Kitty" (Roth) Carper.
David graduated from Fairmount High School in 1965 and began his career working for his uncle, Charles Roth, at the Standard Oil gas station near Fairmount. He went on to work at Dana Corporation, Spicer Division, in Marion for 30 years, starting as a draftsman and retiring as a Quality Control Engineer.
After retiring, David spent 25 years living on Lake Tippecanoe in Kosciusko County, where he enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with his friends from Don's Tap, affectionately known as the Wally Walleye Club. Three years ago, he returned to Fairmount to be closer to his family.
David is survived by his children:
-Shannon (Scott) Suever of Upland
-John (Amy) Carper of Gas City
He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Michaela, Brittan (Livy), Braden, Casey, Hallie, and Gabe, and a great-grandfather to Emmalinn.
David is also survived by his sisters:
-Peg (John) York of Lake Eustis, Florida
-Jeannie (Dave) Carlson of Gainesville, Florida
He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Kitty; his sister, Martha; and his brother, Jim.
Per his wishes, David will be cremated, and no public services will be held.
