Listen to Obituary

During the early morning hours of October 23, 2026 David A. Record hit the ground running straight to the Rainbrow Bridge to reunite with his dogs and cats.

Born on December 3, 1947 to Loren and Mary Ruth Record, he rapidly fell in love with animals, farm life, tractors and hard work. He was soon joined by brothers Jack and Phil and sister Donna. Loaded with strength, Dave was able to ensure the younger siblings realized who was boss.

He attended Swayzee schools for six years then the family moved to Fairmount. It was there that he started a herd of Angus cattle for all three boys to show in 4-H. Spare time was spent with his dogs and fishing with brother Phil.

His high school years found him active in FFA, Junior Bowling League, and football. Many late nights he could be found milking cows on Leland Compton's dairy farm.

During his senior year he began dating his future wife, Marjorie Brewer. They married June 4, 1967. Their shared love for animals, farm life and the smell of new mown hay made them a perfect match. Marge remained the number one female in his life until he purchased Abigail, his blue merle collie, who became a blue ribbon winner in the show ring.

Cattle and pigs became part of their life until he opened Ol'Lace Kennels in 1994. A self taught groomer and with the assistance of Jamie Draper Hodupp, long hour was spent walking and grooming animals. Scottish historian Thomas Carlyle wrote "Blessed is he who has found his work, let him ask no other blessedness".

Dave is survived by his wife Marjorie; siblings Phil (RosaLea) Record, Converse, Donna Woodward Wolcottville, and Jack (Janice Mahoney) Record, Okeechobee, FL; in-laws Jerry (Pat) Brewer, Jeannie (Randy) Elliott and Janis (Wendell) Sizelove, nieces and nephews, Shayne Record, Shawn Record, Andy (Marla) Brewer, Betsy (Frank) Ruiz, Aaron Brewer, Laurie (Dan) Mucha, Kelly Gooch, Amy (Nate) Scott, Brian McClung, Shawn McClung, Nick (Ashley) Brewer, Stephanie (Michael) Timmerman, Tyler (Samantha) Sizelove, Brock (Bethany) Sizelove, Kristin (Alex) Coons. He is also survived by many great nieces, nephews, and his dogs Sissy and Roxy.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where private family services were held. Interment will be at Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Marion-Grant County Humane Society, 505 S. Miller Ave, Marion, IN 46953. To best honor Dave, take a few minutes to love your pets a little longer.
