Former Business Owner Deonicio H. Peña Sr. 94 of Marion died Tuesday August 6, 2024 at Marion Health, Marion, Indiana. A beloved husband, father, and grandfather he will be sadly missed, born April 8, 1930 in Pearsall, TX to Juan and Gregoria (Hernadez) Peña. Deonicio married the love of his life Antonia Guillermo, she survives.
He loved to go to and watch wrestling, loved to dance and loved music. Enjoyed wearing hats and was kind of Fred Sanford type, loved to collect cans and he could sell about anything, he loved his family greatly. He was a migrant worker until he started working at General Tire, Marion and in 1966 opened Peña's Restaurant at 5th and Branson Streets and was awarded the Best Hamburger in Grant County in 1976. He attended St. Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Antonia, children, Hilda (Salvador) Llamas, Pete (Angela) Balderas, Toni (Greg) Myers, Rogelio (Aimee) Peña, Jose A. (Mary) Peña, Edward (Maritza) Peña, Eva (Tracy) Taylor, 44 grandchildren, 98 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by children, Deonicio Jr., Delia Vasquez, Mario Peña, Enett Balderas, Gloria Balderas, siblings, Julian, Luis, and Domingo.
The family will receive friends Friday August 9, 2024 from 6-8 PM at College Park Chapel Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, IN, a life celebration for Deonicio will be Saturday August 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
