Doris D. Goodwin, a beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, and gigi, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, at the age of 89. She was born on February 1, 1937, in Vanzant, KY, to the late Talmadge and Stella (Burnette) Cox. Doris touched the lives of many with her indomitable spirit, sharp wit, and unwavering determination.
Doris was known for her stubbornness but was equally loved for her kindness, warmth, and the joy she brought to those around her.
A committed member of the Moose Lodge in Gas City and the American Legion Post 10 in Marion, Doris actively engaged in her community, leaving a lasting impression through both her service and her vibrant personality. Passionate about gardening, traveling, dancing, and crocheting, she embraced life's simple pleasures and shared her love for these activities with friends and family.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia (Danny) Collins, Marion; Kim (Jim) Burnette, Owensboro, KY; and Roger (Stacie) Blakley, Darlington, PA; grandchildren, Jenica (Brett) Callender, Ryan (Cierra) Collins, Chad (Lanaya) Rusher, and Noah Blakley; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend Thelma.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Arza Goodwin; parents, Talmadge and Stella Cox; siblings, Esker cox, Clifford cox, Billy Cox, Stan Cox, Cecil Cox, Wanda Hedden, and Jean Slater; daughters, Rhonda Blakley, Sharlene Ferguson, and Yvonne Blakley; and the father of her children, Bill Blakley.
Arrangements for Doris were entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana 46928, where on Saturday, April 18, 2026, there will be a viewing from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 P.M. Burial will immediately follow at Gardens of Memory in Muncie.
As we remember Doris, let us reflect on her legacy of strength, love, and the countless memories she has given us. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, living on in the hearts of all who knew her.
