We are saddened to announce the passing of Dorothy J. Lynch Schwingle, a spirited woman who left us peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2026, in Gas City, IN. She was born on February 13, 1934, in Marion, IN, to the late Forrest and Goldie (Williams) Rentfrow. Dorothy lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments.
Dorothy graduated from Marion High School and made her mark in the workforce, contributing her talents at Owens-Illinois and K-Mart, and completing her career at Franklin Electric. While she was dedicated to her jobs, Dorothy's true passion lay in creating a warm and welcoming home for her family.
A vibrant soul, Dorothy was known for her love of dancing, hitting the floor every Saturday night at the Alexandria Eagles, where she was a member and could be found twirling and enjoying life to its fullest. She delighted in going out for meals and shopping excursions, always on the go with friends. Her warm yet stubborn spirit made her a joy to know-once she knew you, she filled your life with kindness and fun.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Peggy Stephenson, Gas City; Terry (Jill) Lynch, Jonesboro; and Robert Lynch, Indianapolis; grandchildren, Melissa (John) Sabo, Teresa (John) Vice, Deanna (Conrad) Herrera, Kevin (Melissa) Stephenson, Chandler Lynch, Alex Lynch, and Brayton Lynch; great-grandchildren, Ethan Stephenson, Gabby Stephenson, Janae Stephenson, ShayLinn (Chase) Hatfield, Justin Ruley, Mallory Sabo, John Myles Sabo, Jackson Sabo, Lilly Vice, Jerzey Foust, Nyah Herrera, and Savannah Herrera; great-great-grandchildren, Easton Hatfield and Nolan Hatfield.
Dorothy was preceded in death by: parents; first husband, John R. Lynch; second husband, Don Schwingle; son, John R. Lynch; grandson, Stephen Stephenson; son-in-law, James Stephenson;
Arrangements for Dorothy were entrusted to the Mississinewa Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 200 North 7th Street, Gas City, Indiana 46933. A public graveside service to honor Dorothy's vibrant life will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Jefferson Cemetery, with Mick Simpkins officiating.
