Dwight Edwin Purdy, 73, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on June 17, 2026.
Dwight was born on April 4, 1953, in Marion, Indiana, to the late Elwin and Velma (Hare) Purdy. He spent most of his life in Marion and was a graduate of Marion High School. He later attended Indiana Wesleyan University. On March 6, 1982, he married the love of his life, Patricia (Mayhle) Purdy.
Dwight worked as a tool and die maker for many years. He began his career at American Tool Craft before continuing his work at Peerless Machine and Tool, where he remained until his retirement in 2015. He attended Lakeview Wesleyan Church (The River Community Church), and was a man of many talents and interests.
A licensed pilot since the age of 19, Dwight had a lifelong passion for aviation and owned several aircraft throughout the years. He enjoyed camping, gardening, and spending time outdoors, and always loved a great deal when he found them. Each year, Dwight and Patricia looked forward to escaping the Indiana winters by spending January and February in Florida. Known for his resourcefulness, Dwight was a true handyman who could fix just about anything.
Most of all, Dwight cherished time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Patricia (Mayhle) Purdy; his children, Ethan (Ellen) Purdy of Marion, Indiana, Emily (David) Prows of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Erica Wallace of Marion, Indiana, and Evan Purdy of Spring Hill, Florida; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister; Dawn (Larry) Gladback, Plainfield, IN and sisters-in-law; Margaret and Jean Purdy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwin and Velma (Hare) Purdy, and his brothers, Dennis Purdy and Douglas Purdy.
Arrangements for Dwight have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 30, 2026 at 12:00 noon at the funeral home with Pastor Timothy Carpenter officiating, family and friends may gather from 10:00 until noon prior to the service. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Gardens of Memory cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Marion Health Oncology Departmen 831 N Theatre Rd, Marion, IN 46952 or the Building Fund of the River Community Church, 5316 S. Western Ave., Marion, IN 46953
