Edward McIlwain

Edward A.. "Ed" McIlwain, 70, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at his Gas City residence. Ed was born in Marion, on August 11, 1954, to the late John H. and Florence H. "Helen" (Jarvis) McIlwain. He graduated from Marion High School, class of 1972, and then graduated from Franklin College in 1976 with a degree in sociology. Ed was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marion. He was a counselor at Cornerstone Behavioral Hospital for many years, and before that, he was the Grant County Health Inspector.

Ed loved traveling and was really into genealogy. He was a collector of many things, but his favorites were model cars and pocket watches. Ed was an eccentric, exquisite, and unique man. He loved to talk and tell stories. Ed loved designer clothing, shoes, and jewelry. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his sister, Rhonda Dean, Marion; niece, Lauren (Aaron Penrod) Dean, Muncie; and their children, Nash, Delilah, and Nolan Penrod.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Debbie McIlwain; aunts, Neysa McIlwain, and Betty Butler; grandparents, Dr's Robert and Eleanor McIlwain.

Arrangements for Ed were entrusted to College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebrations Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953. On Saturday, August 9, there will be a graveside service officiated by Laura Marine, at Grant Memorial Park, 1606 W 26th St, Marion, IN 46953.

Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Ed to the Trustees Fund of First United Methodist Church, 624 South Adams Street, Room 205, Marion, Indiana 46953.
