Elmer "E" Gray, 74, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022, at Ascension St. Vincent in Kokomo, with his loving wife Vicki by his side. Elmer was born on August 12, 1947, in Marion, Indiana. He graduated from Marion High School in 1965 where he wrestled for the school, then attended Indiana Business College. On November 14, 1966, he joined the Army. He served through the Vietnam conflict, earning the Bronze Star Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Good Conduct Service Medal. On August 18, 1979, he married Vicki L. Lewis. Elmer worked for the Postal Service for 33 years. Elmer was a longtime member and elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church until they closed, and then became an associate member of Temple Congregational Church. He was a member of Shady Hills Golf Club, where he achieved a hole in one! He was a member of the Van Buren Legion and the Aero Club and he managed the 31 Club. He enjoyed golf, softball, and intramural basketball, and he was a part of the Plymouth Club Bombers and Star Shoe Shop. Elmer loved the St. Louis Cardinals since childhood. He was a big fan of the Marion Giants, Notre Dame, and Indianapolis Colts. Elmer loved to dance! He and Vicki were avid travelers, and they enjoyed traveling the United States and cruising in the Caribbean Islands together. Elmer is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Vicki; sister, Marlene Hutchison; siblings-in-law, Connie Simmons, Bob (Cathy) Lewis, Shirley (Terry) Huber, Linda Ligman, and Billy Lewis; and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma (Earl D.) Uptegraft; brother, John Thomas "Tom" Mason; and brothers-in-law, Dave R. Lewis and Dave Hutchison. Arrangements for Elmer have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, where a visitation will be held on Saturday, April 2, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. A funeral service with military honors will follow at 3:00 P.M., with Rev. Jeff Jahn officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Center, PSI IOTA XI through the Grant Community Foundation, or Temple Congregational Church, in care of the funeral home.
