Gary Hipes

Gary Alan Hipes, 77, passed away on January 8, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on June 6, 1948, in Anderson, IN, Gary grew up working on the farm and fixing farm equipment. After graduating Fairmount High School in 1966, he continued working at Curless Farm Equipment. Gary and Beverly (Watson) Hipes fell in love and got married, and she survives.

Gary was known for his sharp mind and wit that could turn any frown upside down. He found joy in country music, tractor pulls, and watching the Chicago Bears with his grandson, Connor. A talented tractor mechanic, he worked for 30 years repairing them.

Gary loved his family immensely. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughter, Tonya (Tom); grandchildren, Beccy (Joe), Krista, and Connor; great grandchildren, Kaelyn, Kyra, Alaric, and Ephram; sister, Barbara; sister-in-law, Kay; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Glen Docia; son, James Hewitt; and great-grandsons Phoenix and Finn.

Services for Gary have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where services will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Visitation is from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 4:00 p.m.
