Gilbert Lee Bazan Sr.

June 23, 1967 — May 12, 2023

Gilbert Lee Bazan, Sr., passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. Gil was born on June 23, 1967, to the late Narcisco (Darlene) Bazan, and Pauline (LaVern) Lett. He graduated from Marion High School, class of 1986. He then went on to work for Chrysler and Wal-Mart Distribution Center, and worked as a juvenile probation officer for a while. On October 9, 1987, he married the love of his life, Rhonda Myers, and she survives. Gil enjoyed crappie and bass fishing, playing cards at any time, wood carving, and hunting - he even was inducted into the Hoosier Hall of Fame for White Tail Deer for taking down a deer with an antler measurement of 178 3/8". He very much enjoyed his nickname "The Great Mexican Hunter". He was a great handyman and could fix just about anything. A huge Marion Giants fan, he made sure his family always watched the games. Gil loved to wheel and deal and was always excited to brag about getting his latest "Mexican discount." He was a great man of faith and was a member of Bethel Worship Center for decades. He was a great provider and made sure his family was taken care of. Gil was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, son, brother, and friend. He he was so proud of his boys, Gilbert and Angelo.

Gil is survived by his wife, Rhonda Bazan; son, Angelo (Amanda) Bazan; daughter-in-law, Alyssa Bazan; mother, Pauline Lett; step-mother, Darlene Bazan; mother-in-law, Margaret Myers; grandchildren, Kapri, Preston, Lyla, Addy, Enoch, and Maddux; siblings, Danny (Jennifer) Bazan, Mike (Evelyn) Bazan; Teresa (Mark) Gulley; Janet Bazan; and Bobby Bazan; aunts, Dora Diaz (whom Gil always referred to as his guardian angel), and Hilda Yanes; Chase Walsh and Gabe Tebbe, whom he took under his wing and treated like his own; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends, too numerous to even begin to mention.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gilbert Bazan, Jr.; father, Narcisco Bazan; step-father, LaVern Lett; father-in-law, Jerry Myers; grandparents, Gregorio and Isabel Yanes; Aunt Bea; and his beloved dog, Bella.

Arrangements for Gil have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A celebration of life service will be held at Bethel Worship Center, 1715 East 38th Street, Marion, Indiana 46953, on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Gary Dalton officiating.
