Gordon L. Hoheimer, 91, best 3rd baseman in the state of Indiana, safely slid into heaven on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at home surrounded by his family. Gordon was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Gordon was born on June 5, 1934 in Hartford, Kentucky , son of the late Alonzo M. and Vena F. (Hover) Hoheimer. Gordon attended Fairmount School. Four days after his 18th birthday he married the love of his life, Roberta (Gaither) Hoheimer. After 72 years of marriage, Roberta preceded him in death on July 20, 2024. Gordon retired from General Motors after 33 years where he was a crib attendant . He had a plaster business with his father that he continued for many years.
Gordon was a man of many talents and gifts. He loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. He was the last surviving of the original members of the Back Creek Boys Gospel Quartet performing in many area churches. He also sang with Chord Care and Repair Co. and the Sons of Harmony Barbershop Quartet. An avid sports enthusiast he loved playing baseball as well as coaching and was a gifted third baseman. In 2015 Gordon was inducted in to the Grant County Baseball Hall of Fame and in 2018 he was inducted into the Indiana Softball Hall of Fame. He also participated in several golf leagues. He brought joy to many friends and family when he gifted them water color paintings that had a memory or event that was special to them. Gordon and Roberta loved sitting on their front porch visiting with family or anyone who would stop by for a chat. He attended Nelson Street Wesleyan Church.
Gordon is survived by his four children, Cindy (Mike) Spencer of Summitville, IN, Gordon (Sharon) Hoheimer of Fairmount, IN, Julie (Rich) Trimble of Elwood, IN, and Bonnie (Brian) Flynn of Marion, IN; 7 grandchildren; Alicia ( Steve Helton) Davidson, Michael (Kimbi) Spencer, James Stevenson, Mindy Stone, Brittany (Bobby) Yeagy, Tyler (Brittney) Trimble, Shannon Wallace, 13 great grandchildren; Spencer (Emma) Davidson, Madysen Spencer, Levi Spencer, Braci Ault, Brody Ault, Shayla Crawford, Keaton Stone, Brynnley Labus, Wyatt Trimble, Avery Trimble, Teagan Yeagy, Xavier Yeagy and Weston Yeagy; great- great grandchild; Malaysia Crawford; siblings, Mary Lou Myers, Fairmount, Michal Sue Grose, Marion, Louise (George) Peters, Fairmount, and Steven (Robin) Hoheimer; and a host of extended family and friends along with his four legged companion Sadie.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Jr. Hoheimer, sister, Asondra Dickerson, grandson, Austin Davidson.
Services for Gordon have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where services will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Visitation will be held from 11 AM-1 PM with the funeral service at 1 PM with Pastor Ron Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Park Cemetery.
