Howard E. Martz, 99 of Fairmount, Indiana, entered heavens gates on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Marion Health.

Howard was born in Marion, Indiana on July 25 the youngest of six children born to Jesse and Cora Hazel (Moore) Martz. Howard graduated from Red Key High School High School in 1943. He enlisted in the Army during World War II in September 1943, honorably serving until January 1947. Howard met the love of his life while both of them worked at the Fairmount Kroger Store. They married on September 23, 1950 celebrating 75 years. Howard retired after 36 years as Journeyman Die Maker from General Motors, also serving as vice president of the UAW as well as editor of the UAW newspaper. Howard was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fairmount and faithfully attended Fairmount Wesleyan Church. Howard held a private pilots license for many years and was a Radio Controlled Air Plane enthusiast. That lead him to building and flying many planes and being an active member of the Converse Flying Eagles RC Club. Howard was a huge music fan especially of Big Band Music. One of his favorites was Bob Wills and the Texas Play Boys. Howard enjoyed singing during car rides with his daughter. Traveling was also something Howard enjoyed. He had the pleasure of visiting Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Hawaii. He also enjoyed a good Old Western Movie.

Howard is survived by his loving wife Phyllis, 2 children, Linda (Bob) Moore, Magnolia, TX and Larry (Patrice) Martz, Shepherdsville, KY; four grandchildren, Jessica Martz, Kristin (Brent) Pesz, Jake (Olivia) Martz, and Shawn (Josh) Blackaby, three great grandchildren, Evan (Shelby) Martz, Taylor (Matt) Byers, and Will Blackaby; two great-great grandchildren, Beau and Kingston Byers; and several nieces and nephews.

Services celebrating Howard's life will be held at the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and cremation services 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, Indiana on Saturday, April 25, 2025. Visitation will be from 11 AM- 3 PM with the funeral service celebrating Howard's life at 3 PM with Pastors, Jeff Luedtke, Kristin Pesz and Jake Martz officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at Park Cemetery in Fairmount.
