James F. Dockery, 75, of Gas City, died Friday, January 15, 2021 at St. Vincent Heart Hospital in Indianapolis. James was born in Anderson, Indiana on April 22 1945. He had a good life. He was the son of the late Truman and Nova Marie (Simpson) Dockery. He was one of twelve siblings. James proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the Army from 1964-1966. He retired from the VA Northern Indiana Medical Center after 26 years where he worked in distribution, and had previously worked at Owens-Illinois, Gas City, IN. James was a lifetime member of the VFW in Gas City. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, IU basketball, hiking, and fixing things. If you knew him, you were likely helped by him in some way. James will be dearly missed by daughter, Lynn Marie(Shane) Kahkola, Owensboro, KY. He was the best Papaw ever to four grandchildren, Gabriella Kahkola, LaFontaine, IN, Leah (Cody) Simpkins, Greencastle, IN, Gavin Kahkola, Marion, IN, and Evan Kahkola stationed at Ft. Drum in NY. He recently became the Great Papaw to Magdalena Lynn Simpkins, the most beautiful baby he had ever seen. Also surviving are siblings, George Dockery, Ft. Wayne, Cathy (Dave) Orbaugh, Elwood, Larry Dockery, LaFontaine, Roger Dockery, New Haven, Ruth Stevens, North Liberty, Betty Flatt, Ft. Wayne, Barbara Snodgrass, TN, and Dallas Kuzio, Marion, as well as, special companion Glenna Ferwerda, Marion. Also Dan and Lisa Hochstedler of Pleasant Lake and their sons Nic and Jake, Meiko (Alan) Bender and family, Memphis, TN. James was preceded in death by his parents; companion Jean Hochstedler; brothers, Robert and Jack Dockery; and sister, Dorothy Alexander. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. Services for Jim will be Monday, January 18, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Eastview Wesleyan Church-Jonesboro Campus, 801 S. Main St., Jonesboro, IN with Pastors Shane Kahkola and Cody Simpkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will take place at Park Cemetery, Fairmount at a later date.
