Reece Peacock, 78, died peacefully June 24, 2026 on his Fairmount farm surrounded by his family.
Reece was born on July 31, 1947 in Marion, Indiana, son of the late Myron Reese Peacock Jr. and Barbara Joan (Winslow) Peacock. He graduated from Fairmount High School in 1965 and from Ball State in 1969 where he earned his bachelors degree in Education and played volleyball. Reece excelled at careers as a farmer, teacher and coach. His kind smile, encouragement, and gentleness made him loved and admired by his students, players, and the Fairmount community. He began teaching business at Oak Hill High School in 1969, where he also coached boys basketball. Later in life Reece would coach Muncie Burris girls volleyball teams to 18 State Championships in 21 years and four National Championships. He was inducted into the Grant County Hall of Fame in 2016. In 2008, he received the Don Shondell Lifetime Achievement Award for 20 years of Outstanding Volleyball Coaching. Reece was a member of the Fairmount Friends Church. He enjoyed golfing and winters in Florida with wife, Mary, who he married on July 16, 2010.
Along with Mary, Reece will be missed by daughters Linsie (Brett) Middlesworth, Abigail (Jon) Waits, and Amy Kiley (Michael) Ertel; grandchildren Caleb (Maddie), Colin, Owen, and Meyer Middleworth, Claire and Audrey Waits, Mary Grace (Daniel) McHale, Michael, Emma, Claire, and Luke Ertel: great-grandchildren, Brynn and Sunny Middlesworth and Ross McHale. Reece also leaves behind one sister, Jane Ann (Phil) Gentis.
Reece was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Beth A. (Howard) Peacock, and his son-in-law, K.C. Runyan.
Services for Reece have been provided by the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral home & Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. A memorial Service will be held at Fairmount Friends Church, 124 W 1st St, Fairmount, Indiana on Satruday, July 11, 2005. Visitation will be from 2-5 PM with a short memorial service beginning at 5 PM with Pastor Brock Meyer officiating.
In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the K.C. Runyan Scholarship fund in care of the Community Foundation, 505 West Third Street, Marion, Indiana, 46952, or left at the church on the day of service.
