Jerry Costner, Sr., 74, died Sunday, October 17, 2021, at his Fairmount residence. Jerry was born in Little Rock Arkansas on January 20, 1947, son of the late Joe E. and Virgie Mae (Hall) Costner. He married the love of his life, Barbara DeVaney on February 12, 1966, in Marion, Indiana. Jerry was an ironworker at Jer-Peg and retired as a millwright fabricator from Dana. He was a packrat of many treasures, many of them he enjoyed finding with his metal detector. His love of nature and the outdoors was evident in his activities of fishing, mushroom hunting, feeding the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks, and working in his yard, caring for his castor beans and spider lilies. During a good thunderstorm, you might find him watching from his front porch or even playing in the rain. He enjoyed cookouts and sitting around the fire pit telling stories. He loved pulling pranks on people, especially his good friend Connie Stewart. Jerry made many beautiful things with his metal and woodworking skills. He also enjoyed old cars, scary and western movies, the History Channel, and puzzles, especially Cryptogram puzzles. He was exceptionally proud of his Southern roots. Jerry will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Barbara; daughter, Andrea (Gary) Lutz, both of Fairmount; son, Jerry Jr. (Annette) Costner, Spearman, TX. He loved each of his 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren dearly, as well as his canine companion, Pepe'. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jason; grandson, Johnny Houston; and siblings, Betty, Geneva, Pauline, Emma, Margaret, and Joe Jr. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where private family services will be held. Burial will be at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery in Marion.
