Jewel "Judy" Powers

Jewel Powers, 80, passed away on May 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 17, 1945, to the late John and Margaret (Hosea) Milam.

Jewel graduated from Marion High School, Class of 1962. She later attended nursing school in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She married Gene Crites, who she built a family with. Later in life she married Benjamin Powers, and together they shared many wonderful years.

Jewel dedicated her life to caring for others through her work as a nurse at Marion General Hospital, Emily Flynn and Twin City nursing home . She later retired from the Osceola County Jail in Florida. Jewel was a member of the Catholic Church and had a deep love for animals. She especially enjoyed raising Jack Russell Terriers and Chihuahuas.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Chad Crites and Jon Crites; grandson, Travis (Nikki) Crites and daughter-in-law, Tracy Crites.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Gene Crites; husband, Benjamin Powers; and her son, Brian Crites.

Arrangements for Jewel have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Grant County Humane Society, 505 S. Miller Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953.
