John W. Porterfield, 81, passed away on May 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on January 19, 1945, to the late Glen and Lola ( ) Porterfield.
He attended high school at Mt. Carmel High in Jackson, Kentucky. John went on to Mountain Bible College, he later attended and graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a bachelor's degree. John faithfully served as a ordained minister in the Wesleyan Church and pastored churches in Mt Zion, Greentown, Indiana and Mt Etna, Huntington County. John was also a skilled piano technician. His passion for music, especially the piano, was a defining part of his life and ministry.
On June 28, 1980, he married the love of his life, Maria K. (Secret) Porterfield, and together they shared many wonderful years. John was a devoted member of Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, where he dedicated himself to his faith and community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Porterfield; daughter, Deborah (Daniel) Munoz; son, Andrew (Heidi) Porterfield; sister, Evangelin Schaper; brother, Glenn (Edith) Porterfield; and grandchildren, Jaxton and Jocelin Porterfield.
John was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Glenna Maxine (Charles) Mitchell, Ruth Elaine (Sam) Kovla; brother Paul Meredith (Alice) Porterfield; and brother-in-law, Paul Schaper.

Arrangements for John have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953. A private graveside service will be held at Matthews Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, 2960 E 38th St, Marion, IN 46953.
