Judith A Thurston

Judith A. (Tucker) Thurston, 89, died Thursday, August 13th, 2026, at Heritage Pointe in Huntington, Indiana.

Born March 15, 1937, Judith was the daughter of Walter and Mabel (Cramer) Tucker. She graduated from Marion High School in 1955 and attended Indiana University. On November 30, 1957, she married Paul Thurston, with whom she shared 37 years of marriage before his death on November 7, 1994.

Judith was a talented seamstress who made many of her daughters' clothes herself. She was also an avid gardener, a love that began as a girl when she helped her father care for his flowers. Over the years, her gardens grew plenty of vegetables, many of which found their way into jars through another skill she passed along to both of her daughters: canning. It is a tradition they continue today.

And then there were the Cubs.

For more than 50 years, Judith faithfully watched and cheered for her beloved Chicago Cubs. Her devotion followed her wherever she went. When she moved to Heritage Pointe, they made sure she had access to the sports channel so she could continue watching her team play. She was also a loyal Indiana University basketball fan and enjoyed cheering on the Hoosiers.

More than anything, Judith leaves behind a family whose lives carry pieces of hers forward-the things she taught them, the traditions she passed down, and the memories they made together.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Jeanne (Michael) Garringer and Paula (Tom) Hinton; granddaughters, Karen (Jeremy) Ailes, Sarah (Jeff) Ton, Stephanie (Andrew) Bernethy, and Bailey (Nathanael) Matthews; and great-grandchildren, Madyson Dale, Vivienne Bernethy, Nathaniel Ailes, Gabriel Ailes, and Lincoln Matthews.

Judith was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mabel Tucker; her husband, Paul Thurston; and her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Betty Tucker.

Services for Judith are entrusted to Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. Services will take place on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Fairmount Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Miller Ave., Marion, Indiana 46952; or the Grant County Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 63, Marion, Indiana 46952. Contributions may also be left at the funeral home.
