Keith James Worl, 78, succumbed to lung cancer and left us late Saturday, October 23 with his children on either side. He spent a short period contending with his health and was honored and humbled to do so with the immense support of his family and friends. He was showered in love and good company and remained his usual sharp self throughout his final weeks. He wanted anyone reading this to know that rather than academic merits, his career in carpentry, or accolades of any other kind that the achievements of his family and social relationships were what he is most proud of and would like to be remembered by. Keith's family includes his loving wife of 27 years, Laura; two brothers, Basil (Sally) Worl of St Petersburg, FL, David (Mary Ann) Worl of Rochester, NY; sister, [the late] Carolyn (Dave) Fox of Fairmount; five children [the late] Dawn Worl, Adam (Kim) Worl of Fairmount, Gail (Charles) Books of Elkhart, Stacy (Sonny) Wessel of Indianapolis, Brian (Jessica) Russell of Dallas, TX; a son-in-law, Dan Follis of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren Faith (Josh) King, Grace Worl, Burr Worl, Morgan (Austin) Cook, Chloe Follis, Gabrielle Books, Chris (Stephanie) Wessel, Emily Wessel, John Russell, and Charlie Russell; four great-grandchildren, Hayden, Max, Oaklyn, and Jayden, and eagerly awaiting the arrival of a great-grandson Cook; numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and cousins; and an avowed brother E.B. Rayburn of Indianapolis. It would be remiss not to mention Keith's exceptional friendships, but to list them all individually would be nearly impossible; however, as many are aware, he was very good at relaying to those he treasured how much and why he valued their relationship. Keith was born on May 1, 1943 and raised in rural Fairmount. He mastered schoolwork at Oak Ridge before attending Liberty Elementary and finally Fairmount High School. He was always an enthusiastic attendee of the Fairmount HS Class of 1961 reunions and the recent 60th reunion was a highlight of his last months as each member has been dear to him throughout the years. Keith served in the US Air Force from 1962-1965 as an aircraft mechanic stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and saw much of Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War including Japan, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. Many will know Keith as an accomplished carpenter, craftsman, and home builder from his 50+ year career as such. He built a multitude of homes from the ground up, as well as countless remodels, additions, and projects across Central Indiana, not to mention many barns in upstate New York, leaving his mark as a master of his trade upon the everyday lives of so many of us. Those of us remaining will know that Keith's lasting memory stands above the work he produced - he was a man of knowledge and of wisdom. His areas of interest were history, math, and science, but his focus was on aligning it all toward success and prosperity for those around him. It's been said that Keith was among the top scholars and theologians, all with no higher education. The wisdom he garnered from the knowledge he sought was something he openly passed along to any willing to listen and learn. He truly was a leader in every aspect of his life from childhood into his last days. Above all, Keith aspired to be a family man. All who have enjoyed his love, wisdom, sharp wit, many opinions, and companionship through time will feel his loss, but his legacy came from those before him and lives on in those he's left behind - very much by his design. He will be greatly missed. Memorial service for Keith will be held at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. Visitation is from 11 AM-2 PM. A memorial service celebrating Keith's life will be at 2 PM. Interment will be at Park Cemetery, Fairmount. Memorial contributions may be made to a hospice organization of your choice.
