Lawrence “Larry” J. Trexler Sr. 79, entered heaven's gates on April 1, 2024. Larry was born on March 15, 1945 in Peru, Indiana to the late Leo and Maxine (Macy) Trexler. He was a graduate of North Miami High School in 1964. Larry then went on to play college basketball at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Larry met the love of his life in the eighth grade, Joyce “Diane” (Kepner) Trexler, and she survives. They were married on August 15, 1965, and celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Together they built a life adding four children, Lawrence “Larry” J. Trexler Jr., Richard “Brad” B. Trexler, Stephanie L. Bradshaw, and Matthew S. Trexler.
Larry was a hard worker, he worked 17 years at Dana, and then 25 years at Chrysler. He was a member of UAW 685. After his retirement he worked at Lowes in Marion.
Larry enjoyed many things in his life. He devoted a majority of his time to his grandchildren; he loved to go to their sporting events. He was an avid sports fan and was often watching basketball, football, racing, and baseball. Larry was a craftsman, he built many things with his woodworking skills, and even made stained glass projects. He rebuilt a 1960 Chevy Apache that he named Ol’ Blue, where he took it to many car shows.
Larry loved the Lord, he devoted his life to Him. He went on 5 missions trips to Honduras, where he participated in building projects. His love for the people of Honduras was evident when he would talk about those memories. Larry was a founding member of The River Community Church for 16 years. Larry was a giant of a man with a quiet demeanor but his hand print will be found for years to come because of his investment on the mission field and local church.
Larry is survived by his wife, Diane Trexler; children, Brad Trexler of Suffolk, VA, Stephanie Bradshaw of Suffolk, VA, Matthew (Nicole) Trexler of Swayzee, IN; daughter-in-law, Elisa Trexler of Gas City, IN; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; siblings, Carolyn (Brent) McGee, Thomas (Brenda Engel) Trexler, and Sheila (Keith) Mygrant.
Larry is preceded in his passing by his parents, Leo and Maxine (Macy) Trexler; Son Larry Trexler Jr.; son-in-law Dennis A. Bradshaw
