Larry L. Nelson

July 8, 1944 — October 14, 2023

Larry Lee Nelson, age 79, passed away peacefully after battling a short

illness, with his daughters by his side, on October 14, 2023, at the

Overton Brooks Veteran's Administration Hospital.



Born July 8, 1944, in Marion, Indiana to Lacy Lee (deceased) and Inez

Andes Nelson (deceased), Larry lived in Grant County most of his life.

Larry was a 1962 graduate of Jefferson Township High School in Upland,

Indiana. Larry worked at Owens-Illinois Corrugated and Glass Factory

prior to joining the US Marine Corps in 1964. He served in the 1st

Battalion, 4th Marines Bravo Company, deploying to the Vietnam War from

1966-1967. Larry met and married his wife, Margie, at Camp LeJeune in

1968, whereupon they returned home to Indiana at the end of his

enlistment. He continued his employment with Owens Illinois from 1968

until he retired in 2004.


Larry was a founding member of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club,

Anderson Indiana; lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,

National Rifle Association, and a seventeen year member of American

Legion Post 95. Larry enjoyed his years as a pilot and flight

instructor, as well as camping, boating, fishing, NASCAR and watching

golf. His ultimate love was riding his Harley Davidson, which he did up

to March 2020.


Larry leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Margie H. Nelson of Bossier

City, Louisiana; daughters Lori Nelson Duckworth of Shady Cove, Oregon

and Lynn (Aaron) Nelson-Stevens (Aaron) of Bossier City, Louisiana; grandchildren, Lee

Byrd, Brandi Fountaine, Masao "Mark" (Jovita) Williams, Jacob Duckworth, Katilyn

Stevens, Colin Stevens; great-grandchildren Inez Murillo, Carlos

Rodriguez, Kiailah, Paris and Alleyah Williams; great-great

grandchildren Emilio Murillo, Ariiyah Moses and Raine Rodriguez; brother

Jerry Nelson; sister Linda Nelson; sister-in-law Pam Nelson;

brother-in-law Joe Moore; his ex-son-in-law Lee Duckworth, nieces;

nephews; and many friends. Larry was preceded in death by both his parents,

brother Kerry Nelson and sister Kathy Moore.


The family would like to express a special thank you to the Palliative

Care team and the nurses on 7 and 8 West at the Overton Brooks Veterans

Administration Hospital for their excellent care.


Memorial visitation for Larry Lee Nelson will be 5pm to 7pm on November

27, 2023, at Armes Hunt Funeral Home, 415 South Main Street, Fairmount,

Indiana. A graveside military service will be held at 10 AM on November

28, 2023, at the Marion National Cemetery, 1700 E. 38th Street, Marion,

Indiana with Steve Armes officiating.
