Lewis Richards

Lewis D. Richards, 98, of Fairmount, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 31, 1927, in Fowlerton, Indiana to the late Daniel and Stella (Payne) Richards.

On October 16, 1949, Lewis married the love of his life, Lois D. Walker. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. They were married 75 years.

Lewis was the proud owner of his own company, L&R Disposal Company. His first job was bailing hay for farmers, including his family's farm. He enjoyed solving puzzles or word searches. He also liked to be outdoors, either planting tomatoes, working in the garage or setting up his next rummage sale.

A man of deep faith, Lewis was a longtime member of Fowlerton Wesleyan and now Eastview Wesleyan Church. He had been an active member of the Gideons South Branch since its founding in 1982. His favorite thing to do was pass out Bibles to kids at school.

Lewis will always be remembered for his kindhearted spirit, his generosity, and how he never knew a stranger.

Lewis is survived by five children; Phyllis Marshal of Marion, Gary (Sheila) Richards of Fairmount, Jerry ( Lois Lee "Punky" Welsh) Richards of Fairmount, and Larry Richards of Jonesboro; son-in-law Allen Laws; grandchildren, David (Melissa) Marshall, April (Steven) Howard, Lee (Kim) Richards, Matthew Richards, Joshua (Jessica Bright) Laws, Justin (Chasity) Laws, Jessica (Brandon Case) Laws; great-grandchildren, Dean Richards, Alba Richards, Skarlet Howard, Kaytee Howard, Mackenzie Herring, Xavier Laws, and Ezra Laws.

Lewis is preceded in passing by his parents; son, Philip Richards; daughter-in-law, Maggie Richards; son-in-law, David Marshall I; daughter, Cheryl Richards-Laws; siblings, Betty Savage-Jones, Earl Richards.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. A visitation will be held at Eastview Wesleyan Church, 414 N. 10th Street, Gas City, Indiana 46933, Tuesday, June 3 from 11:00-1:00p.m.. A service will immediately follow at 1:00p.m.. A burial will take place at Park Cemetery in Fairmount, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made out to Eastview Wesleyan Church, 414 N. 10th Street, Gas City, IN 46933
