Mary Louise Beattie, 86, passed away on January 2, 2026, at Community Heart & Vascular Hospital, leaving behind family and friends that will continue to cherish her memory. Born on February 5, 1939 to the late Edith Mae (Chittick) Foster and Verlan Clifford Foster in Athol, Massachusetts, Mary spread her love by caring for others.

Graduating high school in Orange, Massachusetts in 1956, Mary fell in love and married her husband, John Wesley Beattie on November 29, 1958. Her passion for animals led her to volunteer at local shelters, serving as a companion for many furry friends over the years. Her giving spirit showered her family and friends with love, shining a light on their successes, while not expecting the same in return. A caring and helpful soul, Mary was passionate about sharing the love of the Lord with others. She joined Jones Chapel Church alongside her son and daughter-in-law, serving as a loyal servant of God, always reminding her family and friends to follow the teachings of Christ. Mary was given a crafter's heart, spending hours completing beautiful needlework, crocheted pieces, and diamond art. Her musical abilities flourished as an avid player of the piano, organ, and trumpet, passing on the importance of music to her four children. As a life-long Boston Red Sox fan, her prized possession was left-fielder Ted Williams' signature. A dedicated fan of football, Mary never shied away from her mutual love of NFL rivals, the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots.

Mary is survived by her son, Mark (April) Beattie of Elwood, Indiana; daughters, Julie Pope of Crewe, Virginia, Brenda (Brent) Kelly of Mandeville, Louisiana and Jan (Roger) Poplin of Mulberry, Florida; grandchildren, Wesley (Marissa) Beattie, Cody Pope, Chloie Pope, Mason Kelly, Justin Poplin, and Brandon Poplin; great-grandchildren, Atlanta Mae Beattie and Layden Poplin; brothers, Frank Foster of Massachusetts and Donald Foster of Florida; sister, Sally Brown of Florida; and dear friends Barbara Bruce of Connecticut and Bernett Ritchie of Connecticut.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Beattie; mother, Edith Mae (Chittick) Foster; and father, Verlan Clifford Foster.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. In accordance with Mary's wishes, cremation will take place with no services being held.
