Mattie Lue Barker

November 28, 1942 — February 16, 2024

Mattie Lue Blevins-Barker, a cherished soul who touched the lives of many, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 81. She was born on November 28, 1942, in Haleyville, Alabama, to her late parents, Admer and Beuna Hood. After dedicating over two decades of service as the Housekeeping Supervisor at the Marion VA Hospital, Mattie retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication in the medical industry.

A lover of music (she loved that old country bluegrass!), gardening, and antiquing, Mattie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her compassionate spirit extended not only to her family but also to the furry companions she adored. Her warmth touched the hearts of many, leaving lasting memories for those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mattie is survived by her loving children, Donna (Larry) Geuder, Elwood, and Clifford (Tonya) Blevins, Jr., Marion; grandchildren, Clayton (Courtnee) and Maggie Jones, and Morgan and Sarrah Blevins; step-grandchildren, Michelle (Ryan) Lane and Michael and Mitchell Dunham; 20 great-grandchildren; and life-long friend, Rosie Whisenhunt. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and her loyal dog, Lillie Pearl.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Admer and Beuna; husbands, Clifford Blevins, Sr. and Marvin Barker; brothers, LD, Burnett, Robert, Wesley, and Russell Hood; step-brother, Burmer Hood; and sisters, Lois Newman, Bernice Eltzroth, and Bonnie Edan.

Funeral arrangements for Mattie have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Marion, Indiana. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will be a reflection of the love and light that Mattie brought into the lives of those around her. Her final resting place will be alongside her late husband, Cliff, at Marion National Cemetery.
