Maurice N. Rogers Sr.

Maurice N. Rogers, 91, of Muncie, Indiana, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 14, 2026.

Maurice was born on August 25, 1934, in Friendsville, Tennessee to Earl and Pernie (Holmes)
Rogers. Maurice was a 1952 graduate of Muncie Central High School. Upon graduation, Maurice served as a Military Police officer in the U.S.Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas (1954-56). Maurice married Willa June Dungan in April 1957. They moved to Maryville, Tennessee where Maurice completed welding school. In 1961, he moved his family to Matthews, Indiana to begin his 34-year career as a Manufacturing Engineer at Westinghouse until his retirement in 1995.

Maurice chose to follow Christ as a young man and remained faithful to the Lord throughout the many seasons of his life. He was a devoted member of First Community Church, Matthews; Upland Community Church; First Baptist Concord, Farragut, Tennessee; and later Hines Valley Baptist, Lenoir City, Tennessee. He served in these churches in many capacities over the years as Sunday school superintendent, teaching adult Sunday school classes, and serving on church boards.

Maurice was involved in his community and an active member of the Matthews Lions Club for 22 years. He played a big part in the formation of the Matthews Covered Bridge Festival. Maurice was an avid golfer, regularly enjoying the game with his brother Everette and many friends and coworkers. He was an ardent follower of the University of Tennessee Volunteer sports, and the Atlanta Braves. Maurice loved reading and enjoyed gardening and gospel music.

Maurice is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dorothy Jean Rogers; his children: Ned (Mary) Rogers, Muncie, IN; Cheryl (Rick) Gates, Perry, IA; Samantha (Kent) Cocking, Upland, IN; Tom (Sara) Rogers, Muncie, IN; step-son David (Resa) Bryant, Loudon, TN; Grandchildren: Jenna (Bryan) Jackson, Muncie, IN; Katherine Rogers, Indianapolis, IN; Keith (Kelly) Cocking, Upland, IN; Megan (Marcus Sanders) Rogers, Marion, IN; Samuel Gates, Grimes, IA; Kelbe (Kyle) Goupil, Salt Lake City, UT; Shelby (Thomas) Cellilli, Coralville, IA; Erika Rogers, Fishers, IN; Kyle Smedley, South Bend, IN; step-grandchildren Nicole (Lewis) Bryant Louisville, TN; Nicholas (Taylor) Bryant, Louisville, TN; Brayden (Rachel) Bryant, Knoxville, TN; Andrew Bryant, Maryville, TN; Austin Bryant, Louisville, TN; great-grandchildren: Carter, Ty, Brady and Andrea Jackson; Demi Sanders; Nora and Audrey Cellilli; Willa, Walter, Wren, Marjorie and Mabel Cocking; step great-grandchildren Sienna and Maise Bryant; nieces and nephews: Don Rogers, Dallas Bryant, Jerlyn Dickerson, Julie Goodman, Joel Mills, Gabrielle Rogers. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 36 years, Willa June Rogers; siblings Doris Bryant, Everett Rogers, Joyce Leslie, and Terry Rogers; stepsons Grant (Teresa survives) Bryant; and Stephen (Audrey) Bryant.

Family and friends will gather for a graveside service with military honors at Jefferson Township Cemetery in Upland, Indiana at 11am, Wednesday, August 19, 2026, with arrangements entrusted to Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration and Cremation Services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to support the health care of missionaries Osman and Suyapa Gradiz in La Venta, Honduras.
