Max Pearl Tatman, 80, of Upland, Indiana, died at 10:30 PM, on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis, Indiana, after a lengthy battle with acute myeloid leukemia. He entered this world on December 5, 1941, in Anderson, Indiana, born to Fred and Delores (Gillespie) Tatman. Max married Anita Brumley on August 8, 1971, in Vincennes, Indiana, she died July 30, 2015. Max was a graduate of Anderson High School class of 1960, and continued his education at Purdue University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering in 1965. Following college, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1969, Max began as a dairy farmer for 15 years, then went on to work as an engineer at Jennerjohn Machine and then Hartford Packing Plant. Following those roles, he moved back to farming and worked for 13 years at Townsend Farms. He was a member of Upland Community Church, where he enjoyed singing in the chancel choir. Max also enjoyed singing in the Blackford Community Choir. He enjoyed working outside, playing bridge, reading, vintage cars, and water and snow skiing. Most of all, he loved traveling in his car, taking many road trips across the United States. Max is survived by his three children, Dereck Tatman, of San Diego, California, Jason "Mo" (Becky) Tatman, of Indianapolis, and Ian (Sara) Tatman, of Van Buren, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Noah Businger-Tatman, of Indianapolis, Omri Steinberg-Tatman and Eitan Steinberg-Tatman, both of San Diego, CA, Ethan Tatman, of Indianapolis, Drew Arivett and Tate Arivett, both of Van Buren, Isabel Tatman, of Indianapolis, and Bram Tatman, of Van Buren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Becky Tatman. Arrangements for Max have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 259 N. Main St., Upland. A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Upland Community Church, 439 W. Berry Street, Upland, Indiana. Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM with Pastor Mark Biehl officiating. A private burial of cremated remains will be held later in Jefferson Cemetery, Upland. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Grant County.
