Michael Ray Slate, 55, of Fairmount, Indiana, passed away on April 18, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on December 7, 1970, to the late Ronald and Madonna Slate, Michael lived a life that was both profound and full of unique passions.
A proud graduate of Madison-Grant High School Class of 1988, Michael exemplified both intelligence and curiosity, notably skipping grades during his educational journey. Following high school, he devoted nearly a decade of his life to serve his country in the Navy from 1988 to 1997, where he honed his skills as an electrician. His service was a source of pride, and he carried the values instilled in him through the military throughout his life.
After his military service, Michael transitioned to civilian life, working for many years as a forklift operator at Red Gold. His work ethic and dedication were evident in everything he did. Beyond his professional pursuits, Michael was a self-proclaimed nerd who was deeply passionate about science fiction. He found joy in watching classic shows like Star Trek, Star Wars, and the original Twilight Zone, often sharing his insights and enthusiasm with friends and family.
Michael is survived by his brother, James (Heidi) Slate, Summitville; sister, Kayla Slate, Elwood; and nieces and nephews, Ryan Richards, Noah, Hannah, Elizabeth, Leah, and Lukas Slate, and Gabriel Wedmore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Madonna, and several aunts and uncles.
Arrangements for Michael have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana 46928. In accordance with his wishes, Michael will be cremated and a graveside service will take place in the coming days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
