Mitchell D. "Mitch" Lahr, 72, passed away on February 19, 2026, at 9:35 p.m. in North Manchester, Indiana.
Mitch was born on February 22, 1953, in Marion, Indiana, to the late Carl Franklin Lahr and Marjorie Ethel Gladis (Handthorn) Lahr. A lifelong resident of the area, he made his home in Marion, where he built a life centered around faith, family, and hard work.
On June 22, 1978, Mitch married the love of his life, Nancy J. (Jackson) Lahr, who survives. Together they shared many years of devoted marriage and partnership.
Mitch retired from the Marion VA after 38 years of dedicated service as a Nursing Assistant. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years. A man of many talents, Mitch enjoyed construction projects and working on cars-he could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his son, Steven Lahr; step-children, Amy (Troy) Stempfly; Brian (Tracie) Eccles; Eric (Kara) Eccles. Mitch was a proud grandfather to Brandon Stempfly (Marissa), Tristin Noonley (Oliver), Corbert Stempfly (Carolie), Cameron Stempfly, Brett Stempfly (Alex), Wyatt Eccles, Julianne Eccles, and Amanda Eccles; and great-grandfather to Angel Stempfly, Elizabeth Stempfly, Owen Stempfly, and Joel Stempfly.
He is further survived by his siblings: twin brother Michael Lee , Linda, Karen, Joyce, Marge and Randy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
Arrangements for Mitch have been entrusted to College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, IN 46953.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026, at the funeral home, with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery in Marion.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grant County Humane Society, 505 S. Miller Ave., Marion, IN 46953.
