Patricia L. Ross

June 10, 1934 — December 26, 2021

Patricia L. (Hutson) Ross, 87, of Upland, Indiana, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in her home Sunday, December 26, 2021. She was born June 10, 1934, to Loren and Thelma (Lennis) (Hutson) Pinnell in Madison County. She is a graduate of Walnut Grove High School, 1952. Pat married the love of her life, Jack M. Ross, on September 26, 1952. They made their home and built their dreams down a long lane on the edge of Upland. More dreams were fulfilled when she gave life to her three children Jackie, Diane, and Jay. She and Jack not only raised kids, they raised up their best friends. The Fab-5 Team all served in the Ross Insurance family business over the course of 46 years. They taught their kids the value of hard work. Pat was one who had the great balance of knowing how to whistle while she worked and laugh while she labored. She was Secretary of Upland Chamber of Commerce as Jack served as President. For 32 years she was deputy assessor alongside her husband, who was the Jefferson Township Assessor. She was a Charter Member of Dollars for Scholars Board of E.H.S. She tirelessly served the Upland Lion's Club and Upland Historical Society. She got a kick out of it when the Town of Upland celebrated the Ross's in 2005 as Jack and Pat were named the Grand Marshals of the Labor Day Parade. Together they faithfully attended Fairmount Friends Church, and Pat enjoyed time with "The Rockers" LifeGroup. She lived by 3 simple values: Faith, Family, and Community. She loved to travel on the Light Rider double-decker bus with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where one of her grandchildren was always featured on the main stage of Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede. Her zest for life was untamed, love for Jesus unashamed, and her family legacy maintained, through all the ups and downs. She was a 99-pound force of nature. She worked for what she wanted, fearlessly fostered the family she founded and leaves a legacy that will far outlive her life. Pat loved hard, laughed often, led humbly, and died fully alive! Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 69 years, Jack Ross; three children, Jackie (Ron) Meyer, Fairmount, IN; Diane (Mike) Rhodehamel, Wilmington, OH; Jay (Amy) Ross, Upland, IN. Pat went by a much fonder name of "Granny" to six grandchildren, Shane (Amie) Rhodehamel, Wilmington, OH; Britany (Rex) Browning, Tipton, IN; Lacey (Tim) Shanks, Wilmington, OH; Brock (Alissa) Meyer, Fairmount, IN; Kennedy Ross and Trevor Ross, Upland, IN, and seventeen great-grandchildren. Pat's memory is also cherished by her sister, Bonnie Jackman, Hammond, IN; sister-in-law, Luciena McKinney, Westfield, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 259 North Main Street, Upland, Indiana 46989. Service time for public visitation is Friday, December 31, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, at the funeral home. A public funeral will begin at 1:00 pm. The officiants will be Pat's grandsons, Pastors Brock Meyer, and Shane Rhodehamel. Burial will follow the service at Jefferson Township Cemetery, 5127 South 800 East, Marion, Indiana 46953, but the love and legacy of Pat Ross will always be buried in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Fairmount Friends Church or Upland Lions Club. Online condolences and memories made be left at www.armeshuntfuneralhome.com.
