Phillip W. "Skip" Wood, 81, of Fairmount, Indiana, passed away on May 17, 2025, at Stillwater Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Born on August 18, 1943, in Anderson, Indiana, Skip lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a spirit of service.
A cherished husband, Skip married Patricia Jones on September 9, 1962, and together they created a loving home in Fairmount. He is survived by Patricia, their son Brent Wood, grandchildren, Phillip (Gabrielle), Jacob, and Casey Wood, great-grandson, Levi Wood, and sisters, Barbara Couch and Loretta "Ret" (Ken) Stansberger, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Dorothy; son, Kenny Wood; and brother-in-law, Gary Couch.
Skip's professional journey spanned over 50 years as an insurance salesman, a vocation that began alongside his father at Lloyd Insurance. His strong work ethic and commitment to his clients left an indelible mark on the community. A proud graduate of Fairmount High School's class of 1961 and a subsequent alumnus of Indiana Business College, Skip valued knowledge and lifelong learning.
He attended the Fairmount United Methodist Church and the Friends Church, and he found deep spiritual fulfillment in his faith. His passions extended beyond his profession; he was an avid fisherman and a sports enthusiast, often sharing these joys with family and friends.
In addition to his career and family, Skip was deeply involved in the Masonic Lodge, serving for over 50 years, including a tenure as Master. He also proudly held membership in the Scottish Rite for more than five decades, reflecting his commitment to brotherhood and community service.
In a celebration of Skip's life, a visitation will be held at Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana 46928, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025. A Masonic service will follow at 5:00 p.m. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place.
