Richard Lee Zimmerman Jr. passed away peacefully at the VA Hospital in Marion, Indiana on October 1st, at approximately 4:30 pm. He was born in Elkhart, Indiana on April 7th, 1947 to Richard Lee Zimmerman Sr. and Rosemary (Cox) Ehresman.
Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army. While in the Army, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his sharpshooter skills. He was a lifelong gun and car (especially Chevys) enthusiast. He also loved music (especially Bob Dylan, The Eagles and Bob Seger). His biggest passion was his faith. He had read the entire Bible several times and could quote many, many passages. His children would like to extend their gratitude to the VA nurses that took care of their dad with great care, compassion and kindness.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Diane (Tanner) Zimmerman; daughter Gina (Roger) Johns; son Richard Zimmerman, both of Mishawaka, IN and his son Erik (Ryan) Zimmerman of North Port, FL.; grandchildren, Brady (Kimberly) Steenbeke, Zachary (Courtney) Steenbeke, Jaime (Mitchell) Schmucker-Garrett, Nathan Zimmerman, Noah Johns, and Joseph Zimmerman; bonus grandchildren, Amy (Christopher) Lewis and Landon (Nicole) Johns; great grandchildren, Isla, Maverick, Bodie, Kinsley, Penelope, and Jett, as well as his bonus great grandchildren, Makenzie, Bradley, Preslee, Colten and Izabelle; brother, Steven (Deborah) Zimmerman; sisters Linda (Thomas) Istenes and Christine Reynolds, all of Elkhart, Indiana as well as his sister-in-law Judy Zimmerman of Dowagiac, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Zimmerman Sr.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 A.M. -12:00 P.M on Thursday, October 9,2025, at Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, College Park Chapel, 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, Indiana 46953. Funeral services at 12:00 p.m. With a graveside at 1:00 P.M. at Marion National Cemetery.
