Rev. Robert A. "Bob" McCoy, Sr., 89, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, leaving behind a legacy of love and adventure. He was born on February 15, 1936, in Jonesboro, Indiana.
Bob's love story began when he met Sarah L. "Dolly" Columbus, whom he married on October 11, 1957. Together, they celebrated 67 wonderful years of marriage filled with laughter, love, and countless memories. A dedicated tool maker, Bob spent 31 years at General Motors, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
Bob was a proud veteran, having served in the Army, and his faith was a cornerstone of his life. He attended Bethel Worship Center for more than 50 years, deepening his spiritual journey and connecting with his community.
A man of diverse interests, Bob was passionate about the great outdoors. He loved camping and riding motorcycles, and he and Dolly embarked on incredible travels across the United States in their campers. His adventurous spirit carried him to countries like France, Italy, Cuba, Russia, and Israel. Remarkably, at the age of 72, he undertook a motorcycle journey from Indiana to Alaska and back, a more than 7,400-mile journey, showing his zest for life. For 28 winters, Bob and Dolly found solace in the warmth of Enchanting Shores in Naples, Florida, cherishing time spent with friends under the sun.
In addition to his adventurous pursuits, Bob was a generous man who cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dolly; sons, Robert "Rob" McCoy, Kevin (Dru) McCoy, Jonathan (Cindy) McCoy, and Steve (Tammie) McCoy; siblings, Mildred McCoy, James McCoy, Kathy Esslinger, Gary (Kalie) McCoy, Nancy (Larry) Smith, David (Shirley) McCoy, and Joe (Tammy) McCoy; grandchildren, Karmen, Andrew, Mary Beth, Katie, Benjamin, Brittany, Caleb, and Seth; great-grandchildren, Isaac, Graciella, Lorenzo, Elizabeth, Blakely, and Beckham; and countless friends and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his father, Everett McCoy; mother, Mildred McCoy; step-mother, Jane McCoy; sister, Rose Marie (Franklin) Simon; and sister-in-law, June McCoy.
Bob often shared with others, "I never had it so good and liked it so much," reflecting the joy he found in life's simplest pleasures. His compassion and wisdom will resonate in the hearts of all who knew him.
