Robert Lee Royse, age 83, of Fairmount, Indiana, passed away at 7:20 AM on Friday, October 16, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Robert was born on November 29, 1942, in Hillsboro, Kentucky, to the late Isaac Royse and Minnie Belle Mullins Royse. He grew up attending school in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. A proud veteran who loved his country, Robert served in the United States Army. He later relocated to Indiana, where he dedicated 30 years to production work at General Motors before his retirement.
On November 21, 1980, he married his beloved wife, Lorrayna Kay (Stephenson) Royse, with whom he shared nearly 46 years of marriage. Robert was a quiet man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved to travel, successfully visiting every single U.S. state with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii. He was also known for his love of a "new car every year," tinkering with projects, and meticulously mowing and gardening. One of his favorite personal achievements was restoring his father's 1951 Ford tractor. Above all, he cherished his time spent with his family and his beloved canine companion, Izzy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lorrayna Royse of Fairmount; his children, Robert "Lee" Royse II (Nakita) of Gas City and Shawn Leach of Marion; and his eleven grandchildren, Kiley Leach, Kaleb Leach, Angel Cutsinger, Myra (Justin) Street, Ryan Leach, Trista Royse, Ramy Leach, Ayden Leach, Hunter Ricketts, Trinity Royse, and Adison Ricketts; three great grandchildren, Alexander Cutsinger, Serenity Trent, Ava Trent and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Angela D. Leach; and son Robert Leach; siblings Chester, Glen, Sterling, Pauline Colgan, Marie Riley, Carol, and June.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 4-6 PM followed immediately by a funeral service with military rites at 6:00 PM. Services will be at the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral home, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana
