Harrison S. "Sam" Francis, Jr., 91, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Miller's Merry Manor in Marion. Born on January 30, 1933, in Knott County, Kentucky, he was the beloved son of the late Harrison, Sr. and Reanie Francis. Sam graduated from Milan High School, class of 1951, and then proudly served in the Army from 1953 to 1955, during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 368.
On November 17, 1956, he married his devoted wife, Alice Dobson, who lovingly survives him. Sam dedicated 37 years of his life to General Motors as a Die Maker, showcasing his exceptional work ethic and dedication. He found joy in woodworking, fishing, boating, and tending to his garden. His happiest moments were spent outdoors, surrounded by nature and his cherished family. He treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His warm smile and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Sam is survived by his wife, Alice; sons, Paul (Frances) Francis and Larry (Elizabeth) Francis; grandchildren, Michael (Gena) Francis, Andrea (James) Osterman, and Nichole (Zack) Thomas; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison, Sr. and Reanie; brothers, Coy, Hastel, Hobert "Bud", and Hubert; and sisters, Donna Disney and Dale Bell.
Arrangements for Sam have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953, where a visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Thrailkill Cemetery in Swayzee.
