My name was “Sir Gus William Massey.” I crossed the rainbow bridge on Monday, May 13th while my mimi held me and my mom told me I was a good boy. I was a tired good boy, and it was time for me to go home. To the masses, I was known as “Gus,” “Gus Gus” or “Gussy Boy,” but I assure you those names didn’t make me any less of royalty.
I was a fine “Knight,” as my given sur name would suggest. I was a fine and noble frog slayer! I spent many of my summer days excavating my kingdom (digging holes in my papaw’s well-manicured backyard) and could hunt and chase down even the fastest and wiliest of those green and slimy monsters. Always willing to sacrifice injury and upset belly to protect my family from what I am sure was impending doom had I not caught and ate them all. They were and will forever be grateful for my heroic efforts.
Aside from spending my days on the battlefield, I was a prize barker, alerting my family of potential dangers both near and far, from friend and foe alike. I know that they appreciated this service, as they would often tell me! When I was not protecting my family from potential dangers, I loved to spend my free time eating ice cream and going for car rides. I loved celebrating Christmas and opening all of my presents from Santa! My family would tell you that I was the best boy, and I would have to agree.
Sometimes being a dog is hard, it is especially hard when saying goodbye to family. I leave behind my Mom Brooke, my Mimi Annette, my Grandma Great, my Uncle Brock, my Aunt Collette, and all my beautiful nieces. My special human was my Papaw Charlie, and I will miss him probably the most of all, (don’t tell the others) I was his buddy, and he was my person. I was met in Heaven by my Grandpa Great with the best back scratch of all!
I am at peace. I am my younger self. My coat is shiny and soft, my muscles are big and strong. I am no longer tired, and I am running free, slaying all of Heaven’s green and slimy monsters. I lived a long life. I lived the best life. I lived a perfect life.
Love Always,
Gus
