Steven J. Justice, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and esteemed member of the Matthews community passed away on January 30, 2024, at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication.

Born to the late Walter and Glenna Justice on October 21, 1950, in Anderson, Indiana, Steve's life was filled with moments of joy, adventure, and service to his community. He was a proud Navy Seabee, serving his country with honor and courage during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970. His unwavering commitment to duty and his incredible resilience paved the way for his successful graduation from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1982, beginning his remarkable career as the Town Marshal in Matthews.

For 22 years, Steve selflessly protected and served the residents of Matthews with unwavering dedication and a sense of duty. As the Town Marshal, he tirelessly worked to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the community he called home. Whether apprehending criminals or assisting those in need, Steve was a pillar of strength, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

Outside of law enforcement, Steve's invigorating spirit and zest for life were showcased through his diverse range of interests and hobbies. He found solace and tranquility during fishing expeditions, and the thrill of the casino brought excitement into his life. As a devoted family man, Steve cherished attending his children's games when they were little, cherishing those special moments of joy and celebration.

Steve was a man of simplicity, finding delight in the small pleasures of life. He relished watching food commercials on television, his curiosity piqued by the tantalizing dishes on display, which would lead him to insist he must try it. His love for gardening was evident in the radiant blooms that adorned his surroundings, a testament to his nurturing spirit. He also found comfort in mowing lawns, even extending his assistance to the widows in the neighborhood, forever displaying his kindness and generosity.

Those fortunate enough to share moments with Steve will fondly remember his love for storytelling. His tales, whether true or not, captivated audiences, drawing laughter and warmth into their lives. With a quirky sense of humor and a passion for country music, Steve found solace in singing along to his favorite tunes, spreading joy to all who were fortunate to listen.

Throughout his life, Steve was an active member of his community, lending his support to various organizations. As a member of the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club, he exemplified the values of brotherhood, service, and philanthropy.
