Virginia E. Boatwright

Virginia E. (Reece) Boatwright, 82, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on Friday, February 18, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born at home in Grant County on February 24, 1939, the daughter of the late William Plenny and Gertrude (Troutt) Reece. She graduated from Jefferson Township High School and married Paul Boatwright on November 18, 1967. He preceded her in death in 2005. She was a secretary for Eastbrook Community Schools for 37 years. She was a member of Center Chapel United Methodist Church, Marion. Virginia enjoyed reading, hosting Bible studies, baking, quietly dominating opponents at Rook, and was considered an amazing cook who made the best noodles. Survivors include a daughter: Cheryl (Dan) Spencer, Upland; two sons: Rod (Donna) Boatwright, Marion; and Don (Pam) Boatwright, Marion; two sisters: Mineva Floyd, Marion; and Betty (Rev. Richard) Kay, Marion; a sister-in-law, Joan Reece, Marion; six grandchildren: Christina (Brian) Day, Doug Spencer, Sarah (Ryan) McDaniel, Jessica (Scott) Justice, Hannah Stultz, and Luke Boatwright; eighteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, J.R. Reece; a sister, Rosalie (Lee) Orbik; a grandson, Corry Boatwright; a niece, Dixie Riddle; and a brother-in-law, Ron Floyd. Visitation will be held at Center Chapel United Methodist Church, 8733 E. 200 S., Marion, from 11am to 3pm, Saturday, February 26, 2022. The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm at the church with Pastor Mark Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Jefferson Cemetery, Upland. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 259 N. Main St., Upland. Memorial contributions may be made to Center Chapel United Methodist Church or Heart-to-Heart Hospice.
