Wendell L. Gerstorff Sr., 88, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, in Fairmount. Wendell was born in Alexandria, to the late, James and Mary (Jones) Gerstorff, on January 28, 1936. He attended Fairmount schools, and was in the Army from 1959-1960 in Germany. Wendell retired from GM in 1991, after 30.3 years of service. Wendell was a member of the Jonesboro American Legion Post 95, and the Sympathy Club.
Wendell was a well-liked person. He enjoyed riding his golf cart around town, playing cards, shooting pool, wheeling and dealing, and having yard sales. Wendell was the 1958 World Champion Bull Rider.
Wendell is survived by his children, Linda (Garry) Sutton, Summitville; Ricky Gerstorff, Summitville; and Wendell (Debbie) Gerstorff Jr., Bruceville, TX; sisters, Margaret Moore, Judith Rhodes, and Betty Merritt; grandchildren, Cassidy, Dawana, Ambry, Cheryl, and Christina; 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, James, Marion, William, Carl "Ed", John, and George Gerstorff; sisters, Stella Ricker and Darlene Shindler; and great-grandson, Brighten James.
Arrangements for Wendell have been entrusted to Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 South Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana 46928. There will be no services at this time.
