Betty Lou Jones
April 27, 1947 - September 24, 2021
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Betty Lou Jones, of Gas City, on September 24, at the age of 74 years. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Brett (Robyn) Jones and Roni Sue Cotton; grandchildren, Brett Austin Jones, Taylor Jones, Aaliyah Jones, Maddingly Cotton, and Penelope Cotton; great-grandchildren, Wren Jones and Tali Jones; brothers, Jerry (Margaret) Lewis, Jay Mack Lewis, John Allen (Theresa) Lewis, James (Vicky) Lewis, and William Lewis; and sisters, Joan Rhoades and Linda Stone. She will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and neighbors.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Ronald E. Jones; her great-grandson, Brett Austin Jones, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Franklin Rhoades, David Warner, and Howard Stone; and her parents, John and Edna Lewis.
Betty was lovingly raised on a farm with her 7 brothers and sisters in Fairmount, Indiana. She would go on to raise her children on that same land where she and Ronnie had many "weenie roasts", family holidays, and weekend card nights. Betty graduated from cosmetology school in 1969. She was not in a salon long however, as she would go on to be the family beautician to many in her kitchen for years to come. She was a talented seamstress, often doing alterations for numerous life events for many friends, family, and neighbors. Betty would be best known for the love she showed to others children. She spent many years caring for children in her home. Referred to as the baby whisperer for her ability to rock babies to sleep when others were unsuccessful, she would go on later in life to transfer that tender love and care to her 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who she loved more than anything.
Arrangements for Betty have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on October 16, at Jonesboro Friends Church, 513 S. Water St. Jonesboro, Indiana. Just like the many family reunions that Betty loved so much, the celebration of life will be followed by a carry-in meal for friends and family in the church reception hall. The family welcomes anyone to bring one of Betty's best recipes or favorite dishes.
